Fumed veneer is also known by the trade name Golden Cherry. It is produced by passing the natural Aspen veneer through an ammonia kiln to permanently change its colour. American Black Cherry colour, can range from light Red, fumed Golden or Straw colour to medium Red with a Brownish tinge. This process gives the wood a much darker, exotic colouring that has a more '3D-like' character, and is more UV stable than the natural wood or any other form of colouring, e.g. dyed veneers. Its improved UV-stability makes it more resistant to bleaching after prolonged exposure to the sun.
