American Red oak gets its name from the leaf color in fall. The wood is white to light brown and the heartwood is a pinkish-reddish brown. It is similar in general appearance to white oak, but with a slightly less-pronounced figure due to the smaller rays. American red oak is the dominant species in the U.S. hardwood forests – with distinctive grain, and wood that is not always red in colour.
