Fumed Oak is also called Smoked Oak or White Oak. Fumed Oak is very valuable to makers as an important source of wood for furniture, veneer, paneling, and flooring. Other species may also be fumed, but usually will not darken as much as white oak Strong, economical and rot-resistant. Fumed to give a rich, warm quality to the veneer. White oak is a common American hardwood. It is easy to work with, strong, dense and decay resistant due to the abundance of tylose in its cells. The process works best on white oak because of the high tannin content of this wood. The ammonia reacts with the the wood and brings out a darker color, usually a grayish-brown.
