Colour Is deep Reddish Brown or Rose Brown. Some logs have Greenish Gray tone. Heartwood is light to medium reddish brown. Elm's interlocked grain adds to its toughness and makes it more resistant to splitting. With a somewhat coarse, uneven texture. Elm usually has a strong, unpleasant smell when green, though once dried has very little odour. Commonly known as Slippery Elm and Soft Elm. It's highly durable and offers great shock resistance. It's for these reasons that elm wood can be used for furniture and furniture parts that need to absorb shock. This Is a very rare species originating from North America.
